The Root Chakra has classically been shown as a red disk. It represents your familial roots, your ancestry, your primal urges, base needs including your security, your foundation, etc. It is the very base of you; it is your earliest of childhood upbringing, from tiny embryo to around age seven. The Root is where you are shaped in your ideals via what you experience. Having said what the Root Chakra is, let’s look at what issues could occur there.
In my previous post, “Balancing The Chakras, a Magical Rx?” (click here if you missed it) I posed the notion of many of us having “favorite” chakra, my favorites happened to be the upper half, above my heart, actually above my throat. This neglect alone was a detriment and a disrespect to the lower half of me, we are whole, not just parts. Now that I am no longer tripping over my own ego, I am able to face reality and look at my self in the cosmic mirror. I began my focus on my Root Chakra a few weeks back, just bringing it into my consciousness, becoming aware of it as a valid entity. I felt I needed to do something to “activate” my chakras, as if there was a magical switch. I have a great book on Mudras, so I used some Root Chakra Mudras, and Earth Mudras pretty frequently for a week or so… and while Mudras are really great tools to accompany you on your journey, it is not the whole journey; I needed to get out of that way of thinking, I had to stop being lazy and do the work.
When I look at the Root Chakra and the brilliant red color that represents it, I think of dancing barefoot outdoors, primal drumming, running wildly for fun, being physically active, vital, sweating, my biological heritage, children and being outdoors. When I looked at my life over the last couple of years, I found there were things I had neglected. I forgot how to have fun in a very physical way, I was perhaps a bit too relaxed all the time, living in my head and through the safety of imagination. Going with the flow is Okay sometimes, but aimlessly drifting did nothing good for me. The further away I drifted, I noticed that more of me disappeared, I lost the passions I once had, and the courage to have goals and to pursue them...So, somewhere in-between these Mudras I was doing, I felt compelled and had a sense of urgency to get outside. I began taking regular breaks at work, going outside and even taking my shoes off to feel the grass under my feet. I have been to several outdoor events, picnics, music festivals, and have felt vibrant and alive! A couple weeks ago, I felt so good and in such a childlike state, I woke up one morning a decided to jump on my bed, it felt good. When was the last time you jumped up and down on your bed? I’m going to guess its been a while…and FYI, remember that when you go to do this, you are now a much taller adult, so don’t bump your heads.
Some other really great aides that I have found to help me on my journey through the Chakras is a beautiful guided meditation CD that my Reiki Master Marla Mervis created, ironically it is called, Journeying Through The Chakras, available on iTunes (click here). Guided meditations are so wonderful, especially if you have a mind as active as I do, they can really help you focus. I am also journaling more, looking back on the very distant past, focusing on how past experiences may have affected the current state of my Root Chakra.
Daily I am using my Angel Cards, and have recently begun adding Earth Magic Cards by Dr. Steven Farmer. These are beautiful cards that help you connect to the Earth’s Spirit, allowing the lessons surrounding the cards to carry you through your day.
Now that I am more consciously aware of my Root Chakra, I feel open on a new level, more opportunities and information are coming to me, I am more confidant and already beginning to feel whole. I hope this Chakra review will help you connect or re-connect to the very root of your self, it never hurts to revisit.
Much Love & Many Blessings To You
