Balancing The Chakras, a Magical Rx?

The word Chakra means disk, vortex, or wheel. Whereas meridians are an energy transportation system, the chakras are energy stations. -Donna Eden.

This past week I was attuned to Reiki level 2 by my wonderful Reiki Master/Teacher Marla Mervis, of the Living Light Reiki Organization in the Santa Monica area, and lately a great part of my focus has been on the chakra system, particularly my throat chakra. Examining the chakras, and all I thought I knew about them, I am learning to check my ego at the door, not only on this topic, but in every facet of my life. Never did I think I had any ego related issues with regards to how I viewed my chakras. By this I mean, I felt I was in "balance" because if I did a Reiki healing for myself or facilitated for another person, that my chakras would magically balance themselves. Somewhere along the lines I got it in my head that because I was attuned to Reiki, that I would not get sick, I would only experience a "detoxing" symptom and the Reiki energy would balance me out all by itself. Wow, I sure had some nerve! I did not realize I was carrying that ideology around with me everyday.

In this examination of my ego driven views of my chakra knowledge, I did not know all about them, but something in me allowed and accepted a very generalized view of the chakras. I bought in to the basic overview of what the chakras were, and what general aspect each ruled over, what color each chakra was "suppose" to be.

Last night I decided to explore ahead a few chapters in a book I'm reading, called, Energy Medicine, by Donna Eden, who by the way, is blowing me away page by page! She explained the traditional chakra colors as an almost "archtype" guideline, your chakras do not have to be red at the root, orange at the navel, or yellow at the solar plexus, etc, all the time. This is not to say that all this time we have thought of our root chakra as being red is wrong,  it's not, it can change and not be any less out of balance. I felt very validated after reading this, one being that when I do meditate one of the things I do is check out my chakras or auric body, very rarely do I ever see them in "perfect balance", and secondly, I had a aura photograph taken of me, as shown above, and it's all violet. Every single one of my chakras, at least at the time of the photograph, was violet. I received my detailed report, almost 20 pages explaining each chakra, why it was violet, and even how large or expansive it was. I looked over the many other photos they had taken of other people, and saw that no one had all seven colors in their aura. Reading Energy Medicine really brought that day back, that it was OK and did not mean at all that you were out of balance, you may just have a specific type of energy flowing into one of your chakras, for example, you may see green in your root chakra, meaning you are receiving some sort of healing there, and that is OK.

I feel better knowing that I'm not necessarily out of balance so to speak, but that I can recognize that I have some more prominent issues jumping out at me that need to be addressed. Doing Reiki on my more bothersome chakra areas is not going to be enough, it is a great piece of the prescription, and will certainly aid in the healing process, but the other is recognizing that I need to take action to make this happen. Having a chakra balancing session is not going to solve your issues, you have to solve them.

At the beginning of this week I made the first steps in working with each of my chakras, I have started at the Root Chakra and have laid out some exercises to follow. Each week I will post what these exercises are and share my experiences with you. Hopefully you will join me in this examination and healing process as we go through each of the seven main chakras, please feel free to share your experiences as well. Simply being aware of the importance of each chakra and treating them; each one is important and needs the same love you give to your third eye chakra, or whatever your "favorite" chakra may be. So I am starting from the ground up, with my base needs, because as much as I am having some issues with my throat chakra, I need to make sure I can stand firmly on my two feet.

The Purpose, The Mission, and a Little About Me.

So here I am, FINALLY, writing a blog about a subject that has become increasingly dear to me; Reiki! I have been a Reiki “Practitioner” for about two years now. I say, “practitioner” because in those two years I have not “practiced” much, though I have had the ability to, but not the knowledge that accompanies Reiki. This year I set the intention to practice Reiki much more, and make it a daily part of my life, and also become a Reiki Master. In the last couple of months I have learned that Reiki is so much more than a “laying on of the hands”, it is a way of life, there are great responsibilities that accompany the honor of facilitating a healing session, and carrying Reiki energy with you day-to-day. Reiki is transformative, for yourself and for those you interact with daily, it is a great responsibility.

The purpose of this blog is that I want to document my journey to becoming a Reiki Master, this is no one day, or one week thing, this is a process, an extended event, this is a pilgrimage of the soul. That might sound a bit dramatic, but it’s true, it is the deepest inward journey I have ever taken. The soul is a large and expansive place, a lot of history a lot to review and revisit. I want to share my journey with you, I want to document my experience, I need to express, and I hope you my audience will learn or begin your own pilgrimage. I intend to share what inspires me, the good and not so good days, “issues” that may come up and solutions to those issues. Reiki is about taking action and being proactive in your life, if you want change, what are you doing to create it? We as adults are responsible for our own lives, our own happiness, and even our own unhappiness. I am only perfectly imperfect and do not have all the answers, but will do my very best to share what will hopefully help you on your journey.

A little about me....I’m going to play coy and not share so much just yet. I’m a grown woman without children right now, and in no rush to have them just yet, I still have time, I do have a wonderful boyfriend I am most certainly in love with. Through my man, I have learn to accept love, sounds easy, but it is not easy for everyone. As this blog continues, you will get to know me more. I am a Reiki 2, going on Reiki 3 and the Reiki Master/Teacher levels this year. I’m not particularly religious, I was raised a Baptist and do have deep faith in the teachings of Jesus Christ, but it is simply not in me to follow any one particular set of dogmatic rules on what I “should” and “should not” do with my life. Religious Faith is like a road that leads to the same destination, most of us all want to find a way to be closer to God/dess/Spirit/Source/ETC...

My following blog posts will be more specified to the various topics I’d like to discuss. Current events, angels, chakras, ego, judgement, and coming out of the Reiki Closet; AKA, telling your loved ones you are a Reiki Practitioner. There is so much to talk about and I cannot wait.

This blog is organic and I allow the flow to begin.
Much love and many blessings to you.
